RADICALS ATTACK Legendary Race
track
FunKtion Auto Group hosted their
inaugural track day on Bill Scott's famed Summit Point
Motorsports Park on Wednesday the 27th of October. Over
90 racers were on hand to experience the first public
showing of the Radical SR-3.
FunKtion Auto President Walid
Achi stated, " I am ecstatic, not only about the
performance of our first two cars but also the racing
communities excitement about these on track experience we
offer to learn more and drive the cars as well as the open
invitation to all that want to race their cars in a
properly controlled environment. We were expecting 40-50
participants and we had nearly double that!."
"We will host another track day
on the 23rd of November at Summit Point" Achi went on to
say. The event featured great food as well as classroom
instruction. Veteran road racer and "on air" personality
Bob Steele from The Arrow 94.7 Classic Rock was the
event’s emcee. Bob said of the event, "From the time I
arrived, we were treated like royalty. From the coffee and
pastries first thing in the morning to the last flag at
the end of the day the event was a blast for everyone that
participated."
Crew chief Brian Downey spent
most of his day driving the Radicals with a co pilot.
"Even with two people in the car the handling was not
diminished and the acceleration was excellent." Brian
also had two of the legendary Datsun 510's he has
campaigned over the last 25 years present.
The SR3 is produced in England by
Radical Motorsports and has proven to be the world's
fastest one-make sports racing car, lapping circuits at
Formula 3 lap times. In addition it had been certified as
the "World's Fastest Track Day" car by several British car
magazines and has rewritten many lap records all over
Europe for its class. The SR3 smashed the production car
lap record at the famous Nürburgring on its first attempt
by an amazing 13 seconds. Similar versions have dominated
SCCA's C and D Sports classes, setting new lap records and
winning races nearly every time out. The SR3 hits 0-60 in
a little over 2 seconds, 0-100 in under 6 seconds, and can
out accelerate almost anything this side of an F1 car.
Here's what the racing community
had to say about the Radical Experience.
Francois Duret` the proprietor of
Allsports Indoor Karting in Sterling, VA as well as 24
Hours of Le Mans veteran likened the Radical to the
styling, handling and performance of the Can Am cars that
were so popular in the late 60 and early '70's.
NASCAR Series driver Jason Smith
had a great time going right as well as left, Jason
commented, "I was impressed with the acceleration and the
versatility of the torque range and the superior cornering
with the Radical racer". Smith said he can't wait for the
next track day scheduled for November 23rd at Summit
Point.
Gary Church, veteran Porsche Club
road racer "The Radical is an exciting track car. It is
very responsive, power is very good, braking is
outstanding. The overall performance is phenomenal. The
Radical SR3 combines speed fun and safety with the best of
the best."
Darrell Carlisle a Porsche GT3 Cup
car owner/driver and veteran SCCA Porsche Cup driver- "The
SR3 is very predictable and easy to drive. The learning
curve is phenomenally easy with the Radical. It's a lot
of car for a bargain price. It's a real race car!"
